Roughly fifty automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to police.
Automobiles, walls and postal boxes were marked, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a release.
Law enforcement report they were notified during the night on Wednesday, when a man noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored liquid.
The substance had been drawn in the pattern of a swastika, they added.
Officers then found numerous other vandalized cars and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under legislation banning the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement say early analysis indicate the liquid was likely blood from a person.
"There is still no lead as to where it came from; investigators are not yet aware of any harm in relation with the occurrence," they added.
Local authorities stated they were working "to solve the incident" and have appealed to the community for information.
A high-ranking representative stated the incident made him without words and had to be resolved rapidly.
"This event affects the very heart of Hanau and revives the pain of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he posted on a platform, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a shooter focusing on individuals of migrant background in 2020.
